The HERfinance training has really helped me a lot. One of the benefits I have gained is self-confidence, and I now believe that I can save for the long-term needs of my children.
My eldest daughter is very smart, and we are saving for her so she can become a doctor. After the training we started planning exactly how much we have to save each month to educate her and all our children, and we are actually meeting that goal. We have already put aside Rs. 25,000 until now for that purpose.
One of my life’s goals is not only to learn how to plan for the future, but to share this information with others so they can benefit from it as much as we have.
In the past, when we received our salary in cash, I used to face a lot of problems. I share the house, so I didn’t know where to keep my money safely.
Being a woman, I also was worried about walking out of the factory with that much money. When there were emergencies and I had to send money home, I never had any money saved. Once I received my first digital salary, I was very happy with the benefits. Now I try to teach others about this—how it is actually beneficial for us
Keeping cash on me used to be extremely stressful. I used to sometimes keep cash at home, but then on the 22 July, someone broke into our house and robbed us. They did not find any cash though.
Except for daily expense cash, which was on our persons, all the rest of our money was safe in our mobile money account. If on that day the money had been under the pillow or inside the mattress, it would have been stolen too! It would have been very sad and painful to have lost the money saved from our hard work here.
When we transport cash from the bank to the factory to pay salaries, the finance department feels an enormous sense of risk.
Our workflow also gets impacted because of the time and productivity loss from distributing cash to individuals. We saw all of these drawback which could be overcome by digitizing salary payments.
Everyone has aspirations, dreams, and desires. But dreaming is not enough. You also need to plan, save and work towards achieving your goals. HERfinance made me much more aware of this fact and showed me how to make my dreams possible.
HERfinance has helped me a lot. I’ve started to manage my money differently. I was unaware of the concept of budgeting earlier, but now every month my family and I look at how much we have to spend on necessities, and then put the rest in the bank.
I am confident that getting my sister married and building a house are all possible with long-term planning. I also feel prepared for any health-related emergency. HERfinance taught me how to save for the future, and I’ve since taught my family as well.
I have learned many things from this program. Earlier the idea to save for the future had never occurred to me. Now, my husband and I plan ahead for all our expected expenses, and this way we know how much we need to reserve so as not to fall short.
We also used to put money in chit funds (informal group savings schemes), and I was cheated by them once. Now I keep my money in the bank where I know it is safe. I even opened a personal bank account.
This training has motivated me and has been extremely helpful to me and my family. I have also spoken about it to my neighbors and friends so that they might also benefit from this knowledge.
I have learned during this period that these are knowledgeable individuals who have skills and are well informed and also experienced with life's lessons.
But they lack the know-how to apply these lessons to their daily lives, so training them essentially means making them aware of their own knowledge and explaining the context and method to use it on a regular basis and disseminate it to others. This helps them develop their workplace lives as well as personal lives.
Based on the feedback I have received, I feel that the lives of so many people and their families have taken such a positive turn and also influenced those with whom they interact. This is proof of the effectiveness of HERfinance, and this makes me very happy.
To be a good Peer Educator you need patience. We need to know all the details first, and then teach others. I have told people at work that we should think and plan about our financial needs and the future, and make appropriate budgets for a happy life.
When my husband was sick with a heart condition, ESI (public health insurance) helped us a lot. I learned about this through HERfinance, and now I have told my friends at work about it, too.
Going through the HERfinance program has changed my outlook, and now I feel very positive about our future.
I have realized that it is much better to save to cover my expenses and spending needs than to borrow from others. Borrowing from others only leads to disconcertment at home. Life is peaceful when you are not in debt.
Through the HERfinance training I learned about banking, ATMs, savings, and how to borrow properly.
I have learned whom not to borrow from, like unregistered establishments which give very high interest rates. I have questions and doubts from time to time, and it’s nice to have someone in the factory (the trainer) to talk to when these situations arise. I also tell people about what I learn in the training, and they see that it has helped me achieve a lot. So they listen, and then they tell someone else, too.
